Coins of Ancestry are special tokens that you can collect during the Lunar Festival event in World of Warcraft. You can use them to buy various items from the Lunar Festival vendors in major cities.

Visit the Elders
The main way to get Coins of Ancestry is to visit the Elders scattered around the world. They are ancient and wise NPCs that will give you a quest to honor them. When you complete the quest, you will receive a Coin of Ancestry and a Lucky Red Envelope.
The envelope may contain a Lunar Festival Firework or a Lunar Festival Invitation.
There are 84 Elders in total, and you can visit each one once per year. You can find their locations on the map or use an addon like HandyNotes to mark them. You can also check the Achievements tab for hints on where to find them.
Complete the “Lunar Preservation” Quest in WoW
Another way to get Coins of Ancestry is to complete the Lunar Festival Achievements.
You can do These special tasks during the event, such as launching fireworks, wearing festive clothes, or defeating world bosses. These achievements will reward you with Coins of Ancestry or other items you can sell for gold.
- This one-time quest requires you to visit and activate Moonwells in various zones within an hour.
- Completing the quest grants 25 Coins of Ancestry.
- You can find the quest giver near the Lunar Festival vendor in Moonglade.

What to spend Coin of Ancestry Wisely?
Once you have collected some Coins of Ancestry, you can spend them at the Lunar Festival vendors. They are in Ironforge, Stormwind, Darnassus, Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, Undercity, and Moonglade. They sell various items, such as:
- Festival Lantern or Lunar Lantern: These are cute pets you can summon and follow around. They cost 50 Coins of Ancestry each and are bind on pick up.
- Festive Recipes: These cooking recipes you can learn to make festive dishes. They cost 5 Coins of Ancestry each and are bind on acquire.
- Festive Outfits: You can wear These cosmetic items to look like a Lunar Festival celebrant. They cost 5 Coins of Ancestry each and are bind on equip.
- Fireworks: These are consumable items that you can use to launch colorful explosions in the sky. They cost 1 Coin of Ancestry each and are not soulbound.
You can also exchange your Coins of Ancestry for gold at the Fariel Starsong NPC in Moonglade. She will give you 47 silver and 50 copper for each coin. However, this is not a very profitable option, as you can make more money by selling the items you buy with the coins.
